Competitor Analysis

See how you score against the hotels you compete with.

A 4.3 is good or bad depending entirely on what the other four hotels on your street are scoring. Compset Benchmark tracks the properties you actually compete with and shows where you win, where you lose, and which of their weaknesses is worth putting in your own listing copy.

A resort pool terrace at golden hour, the kind of property guests compare you against.

A 4.3 is not a good rating or a bad one. It is a good rating on a street where everyone else is at 4.0 and a problem on a street where the three hotels nearest you are at 4.5. Your own number, read on its own, tells you almost nothing about whether you are winning the booking.

The other thing a rating in isolation hides is why. You can watch your score drift down for two quarters without ever learning that the property across the road refurbished its bathrooms, or that the one guests compare you to has quietly started offering the late checkout you charge for.

Compset Benchmark tracks the properties you actually lose bookings to - chosen by you, not guessed by an algorithm - and puts your rating, review volume, response rate and category scores next to theirs over time. Including their recurring complaints, which is the part that turns competitor analysis into something you can act on: it tells you what to promise that your neighbour cannot.

How it works

Competitor Analysis, step by step.

  1. 1

    Pick your real compset

The three to five properties you genuinely lose bookings to. Not the ones an algorithm decides are similar - you already know who they are, and being wrong about the set makes every number downstream meaningless.

  2. 2

Tracked over time, not just today

Rating, review volume, response rate and category-level scores for each of them, with movement across periods. A competitor climbing steadily matters more than one who is briefly ahead.

  3. 3

    Read their complaints

Their recurring negative themes, surfaced the same way as your own. If the hotel guests compare you to gets constant noise complaints and you have triple glazing you never mention in your listing copy, that is a marketing decision waiting to be made.

What you get

Included at every property count.

  • Pick your compset - the properties you lose bookings to, not an algorithm's guess
  • Rating, review volume and response rate tracked against each of them over time
  • Category-level comparison: where you beat them and where they beat you
  • Their recurring complaints, so you know what to promise that they can't

Questions

About competitor analysis.

You choose them. Automatic compsets tend to pick properties that are geographically close but commercially irrelevant, and a benchmark against the wrong set is worse than none - it produces confident numbers about hotels you never lose a booking to.

Their public listings - the same pages any traveller can read. This is not privileged data and we do not claim otherwise; the value is in tracking it consistently over time and putting it beside your own, which nobody has an afternoon to do by hand.

Yes. A city-centre hotel and a coastal resort in the same portfolio compete with completely different sets, so each property carries its own compset.
